Summer is gone and no one seemed to have noticed where it had gone to..global warming has been a constant concern yet many people here in Ottawa are unaffected considering the seemingly endless downpour of rain and cold spell..looks like its resulting from dissipating glaciers...the OVFCSCA had their July celebration at ANDREW HAYDON PARK..it was well attended as compared to last year; it had more promotions this year, and a lot of its new members are beginning to makisama sa association now..most of the new members joined the older group to LOGUSLAND where members enjoyed a day of BINGO, 41, BLACKJACK and PUSOY...the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS held a karaoke contest in July in search of its Idol..RIA ROSALES, daughter of MYRNA and AL ROSALES of the embassy, bagged the first prize in the youth category by singing DON’T CRY FOR ME, ARGENTINA, while VANESSA MERJUDIO, oldest daughter of LANI and ROMEO MERJUDIO, also of the embassy, crooned to the tune of SANA’Y WALA NANG WAKAS, which earned her first prize in the adult category..she was also crowned KNIGHTS’ Idol for 2007..late entrants ADELINE ANCHETA, REMY GAPAS, JERRY and BERT, missed their chance when they registered late in the evening..,OVFCSCA is organizing a PINOY IDOL SA OTTAWA CONTEST sometime in NOVEMBER.. at stake are a first prize of $500 and the prestigious AMBASSADOR TROPHY, second prize of $250 and a third prize of $100..interested contestants are encouraged to contact any board members of the association... ARCHBISHOP TERRENCE PENDERGAST,SJ, celebrated Mass on Wednesday, July 15th, at Assumption Parish..a small reception followed at the Parish hall..OVFCSCA is having their monthly celebration on the 19th of August..the association has seen the most number of celebrants born under this month..as usual, celeb will be held in the basement of Assumption..September celebrants are kind of leery as there are not too many of them to celebrate..the SAN LORENZO RUIZ Filipino Community is currently preparing for the Feast of our First Filipino Saint, SAN LORENZO RUIZ, which will be held on September 28th at 7:00pm, at Assumption Parish..members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend this initial Mass for our Saint.. the PHILIPPINE HERITAGE FOUNDATION will be preparing wine and bread gifts for sale to those who would be interested in making offerings to the Parish...further information can be obtained by getting in-touch with NOLI FORMOSO,Coordinator, or MAURA DAVID, Head of Liturgical Special Events or FLOR MARCELO, Head of Non-Liturgical Events..EFRAIM VIDAL, one of the founders of OVFCSCA, passed away on Saturday, August 18th after a brief battle with cancer...he is survived by wife, CANDIDA, who is a former member of the board of directors of the association, and by his children, in-laws and close friends.."may a choir of angels sing thee to thy rest:..OLLIE and MENCHIE DAVID are back from their honeymoon in Manila..part of their itinerary was Cebu City where, accordingly, they were given a royal treatment and shown around by former Ambassador FRANCISCO BENEDICTO..a seemingly generous personality of the former likeable ambassador who treats anyone who gets in touch with him with gusto..DIGNA and REY BAY got equal treatment when they dropped by to say hello when they visited the country sometime ago..OVFCSCA is organizing another trip south of the border sometime in late Fall..it would be around the NEW ENGLAND States, with stopovers in Foxwoods or Mojegan Sun, in Connecticut or Newport or Providence, Rhode Island, or Cape Cod in Provincetown, or Boston, Massachusetts, or St. Albans in Vermont and New Hampshire.. those interested are encouraged to contact any member of the board of the association..we welcome back PROCY and JUNI RICASIO from their short trip to San Francisco and Chicago..wonder if they wore some flowers in their heads..we also welcome back MIN and EDWIN ACUNA and their two kids from their holidays in New Jersey..the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, Assumption Parish Council, has taken charge of its maintenance and care..any business or transaction pertaining to the use of the hall or other areas of the Parish should be directed to ROGER SWEET, Grand Knight of KOC of that council..the UNITED ARTISTS of Toronto performed at the Bronson Centre on August 29th..guests performers from Ottawa’s group of rising stars included JOANNA HIPOLITO and JHUN LEONARDO..OVFCSCA is celebrating its 12th anniversary in October..the commemoration will be held simultaneously with their monthly celebration which is on the 3rd week of each month..the MIGRANTE GROUP is having their annual beauty pageant on October 13th, to be held at the parish hall of Assumption church.. it has been rumoured that the officers of OVFCSCA are not doing enough for the benefit of its members.. it has been rumoured that a certain officer of the previous OVFCSCA has been whispering to Fr. ARANA about the oblivious attitude of the association’s officers..the members have already profiled the person who has a brown nose and they are cooking something which this person will never forget in life..shocking it will be but deserving..kaunting ingat sa pagsasalita dahil baka maputol ang iyong dila, ha? ...another member of the community we bade farewell.. DIVINA TORRES VILLALUNA, a.k.a. Ate Divina, to many in the service profession who came in the late 80s or early 90s. passed away on September 10,2007, due to liver failure..she will be missed by many friends..the KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS, San Lorenzo Ruiz Council, at Assumption Parish held a fund-raising event on Saturday, Sept. 15th,2007..it was well attended..September celeb by OVFCSCA was not very well attended and many of the only 9 celebrants didn’t feel anxious to celebrate with the rest..OVFCSCA wants to consider stopping such celebrations in the near future as very few of the members help out in the preparation and security of the celebration..like the old adage says..KANYA-KANYA NA LANG TAYO..after all, we Filipinos are always UNSUPPORTIVE OF EACH OTHER.. yet WE ARE THE BEST WHEN IT COMES TO PANINIRA SA KAPWA ..we are janiformed, aren’t we all???
