On Sunday, September 23rd, 2007, the Filipiniana Association of the Ottawa Valley hosted the Ambassador’s
Cup Golf Tournament at the Hammond Golf and Country Club. This year there were 40 participants who took to the links to show
their prowess at the game of golf. The scramble format that is used allows players from different skill levels to compete
on a more level playing field, as you don’t have to be the best player on each shot because you play each shot as a
4-man team.
Annually the Association provides the golfers with good weather, on a great track, and some handsome prizes.
Thanks to Audrey Knight of the Cruiseship Centres, a Carribbean cruise was up for grabs to anyone who could ace the 190 yard
4th hole. Unfortunately nobody was able to accomplish this feat. Longest Drive awards were presented to this year’s
men’s and ladies’ winners John McArthur and Debbie Tang Fong and included prizes provided by the host Hammond
Golf and Country Club. Closest to the Pin awards went to Bob Matheson and Brianne Charron for their tee shots on the 14th
hole. These included prizes from Studio 240 and its lovely ownwer Jennifer Egloff. Every player received a souvenir hat and
door prize. The hats were provided by the Association and the door prizes were provided by the individual members of the Association
as well as the following: Cecilia Rafael (Sutton Realty), Ron and Norma Cruz, Conchita King, Darrell Gilbertson, Pete and
Lolita Ignacio, Debbie and Steve Tang Fong, Bob and Thelma Roger, Ellen and Terry Barber, Chris Ruiter, and Martin Patterson.
On behalf of the Association and as Chair of the Ambassadors Cup, I would like to thank everyone for their generous support
of this project and for its continuing success.
By now, I am certain that everyone really wants to know who the big winners were. As defending Champions,
Pete Ignacio’s team which included Celso Villamoran, and Leo Andal, had to be considered the front-runners. They would
be pushed hard by last year’s runners-up, captained by Rob Lay, however the back nine was very kind to the more experienced
foursome who shot 6 under par on the back to finish at minus 9 (63) and win the tournament by 1 stroke over the youthful challengers.
Congratulations to the winning foursome of Henry Yrenaya, Celso Villamoran, Pete Ignacio, and Leo Andal. We hope that next
year will be bigger and better and we invite all players to come out and enjoy a great game, in great weather, followed by
a good meal.
